Ciao and ayukîi! I’m a producer and freelance multimedia journalist with more than a decade of network news experience. I believe in the power of journalism to make change, and that everyone has a story. My job is to help people tell them — with accuracy and heart.
As a freelance journalist, I get to work with some of my favorite news organizations and brands. Primarily, I am a Senior Producer for ABC News Live Prime. Before making the leap to freelance, I was a producer for NBC Network News for 12 years — based first at world headquarters in New York and then in San Francisco. In these roles, I had the privilege of crafting the most urgent stories of the day on broadcasts like NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt and The Today Show.
I was born and raised in California’s beautiful wine country, and love when stories lead me back home. While my expertise is producing and writing news stories and features, I’ve also shot and edited hundreds of stories as a one-woman-band, as well as reported live on camera. Here’s one favorite I pitched, wrote and produced about restitution for Native American students.
My first foray into on-camera journalism was at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) as a reporter for Daily Bruin Television. I was hooked! I graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science, International Relations and Public Policy. I worked in magazines, local television (KABC-TV in Los Angeles!), as well as for the Associated Press in Rome, Italy before moving to New York City for journalism school. I have a Master of Science (MS) in Journalism (Broadcast) from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
I’m the daughter of a Sicilian immigrant and Karuk American Indian, and so I care deeply about the need for diverse voices in the media and about telling stories outside the confines of stereotypes. That’s why I was especially proud to be part of an excellent team of journalists at NBC News covering Indian Country (as you can see in the promo above.)
In 2021, I also co-founded and led the first ever employee resource group for Indigenous peoples at NBCUniversal. In just its first year, this global community of Indigenous folks and allies, called Indigenous@NBCU, grew to several hundred people, hosted a dozen inspiring events amplifying the voices of Indigenous peoples, and created a mentorship program.
